"Singing for the Future II" 2006 built on the success of "Singing for the Future I" in 2005 by presenting a program including two major events for international choral exchange, community performance, and education. The program was organized by the Committee of 100 Cultural Institute (USA) and presented by the Shanghai Opera House, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, with financial support from the Shanghai Grand Theatre Arts Group Art Development Fund Aid.

Maestro Nelson returned to lead the free Community Sing for 1650 voices as part of awareness buildup for the Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai 2007. The 31 choruses comprised of Chinese university students, students from International schools, and community amateur choruses, as well as 30 dancers from the Children's Palace and 35 athletes from the Special Olympics performing a dance choreographed by Doudou Huang, performed to the Beethoven Choral at Lu Wan Stadium.

The three young Chinese conductors who assisted Maestro Nelson from the previous year and received the United Board Fellowship to train with him in Europe in 2006, were invited back to act as assistant conductors for "Singing for the Future II". The second major event was the Gala Performance of Handel's "Messiah", celebrating the Shanghai Opera House's 50th anniversary. Both programs received major media coverage, helping to create awareness for the value of the arts and the importance of embracing diversity with inclusiveness for people of all cultures and abilities.
